My Years In Music And How I Discovered Kagrra,

Throughout my entire life, I've been through phases of each genre in music. For example, I was a huge NSYNC fan in 2000. Yes, I admit it. I even tried to dress up like them by wearing a vest without a shirt and my hair spiked. That part of my life lasted a couple of years, though I do enjoy hearing "Bye Bye Bye" every now and then. After Pop, I got into Rap and R&B. The first songs I heard include "Too Close" by Next and "Thong Song" by Sisqo. I didn't understand the lyrics back then but they have a nice beat to it, lol! My favorite artists were T-Pain and Twista during my school years and I also picked up tastes for different genres, but it mostly depended on the songs. One summer night, I was looking up J-Pop music because I liked the slow paced songs I heard in the asian market, O-Mart. That's when I came across a video that compiled a bunch of Japanese music. I basically skimmed through the entire video because I didn't find any Pop songs that caught my attention. After the video, I read the comments (habit) and read stuff about "R.I.P. Isshi" and "I wish Kagrra, were still together! :(" I took a look back at the video to find Kagrra, and watched a video clip of Utakata. I must say that was the hardest thing I ever learned to spell back then. I had absolutely no experience with Japanese. It was that same night that I went on a website and downloaded all the songs I could find. These songs were Uzu, Sai, Kasunda Fuyu No Mukou Ni... (was actually named Sakebi on the site), and Haru Urara. "Sakebi" was my love at first sight in that I had it on repeat all night. It was the perfect song! The next day I went on YouTube to watch a music video for it. I found it! Sakebi! Wait a minute, it sounds like a completely different song! Maybe YouTube is wrong? Well I found out a long time later the real name. I started watching as many PV's as I could and also loved Sakura Zukiyo. Fun Fact: I had a real hard time figuring out the sexes of the other members. That's where my addiction began. About 1 year later is when I would start uploading all their stuff on my Youtube channel, to possibly archive these treasures before they become lost. Ever since then I've stuck with them and only them.
I tried to guess the sexes based on this picture! You can see I had a real troubling time figuring out Akiya and Shin...

  1. Wow so the first Kagrra song u heard was Utakata! Lol Sakebi was my top favourite rock song in Shizuku album although this happens to not be ur fav. hahaa.. it's really funny how u discovered it. xD

Omg u can't figure out their gender! Well Kagrra's visual kei style at the beginning isn't that too over cos I've seen other Jrock bands that are really exaggerating that u'll not expect them to be guys. But lol, Kagrra, isn't that hard to me.. They're all really manly. xD

    1. yea, if anything, sakebi is lower on my list of fav songs in the album. i was never used to people dressing up like girls except for trannies. so to see a band that did that confused me at the time. of course, i feel stupid i ever had any hard time but, i always feel stupid at the end of riddles haha.

    2. Lol.. it took me time to accept and see guys who dressed like that but that's what visual kei is. The first band I came across with is the Gazette and their style kinda shocked me initially, but I'm glad I didn't get turned off by them cos of that. If not I wouldn't have know about Kagrra! But it's also cos of Kagrra, I'll accept everything about them. haha. =D
